1.2 Noncomplex child | Child/youth (>1 year) Medically stable | Medically stable child or youth from 1 to 21 years of age who requires hospitalization; child’s function is below age-appropriate and medical care is needed that is not typically required for children, such as postsurgical management, IV antibiotics, and wound care |

2 Active rehabilitation | Child/youth (>1 year) Medically stable Active rehabilitation therapies | Medically stable child or youth 1 to 21 years of age who will receive active level of rehabilitation therapies including physical, occupational, and/or speech-language therapy; child may or may not have a preexisting condition but exhibits medical needs and impairments in self-care, safety, communication, cognition, behavior, and/or mobility due to a recent illness/injury/surgery |

3.11 Medically complex infant | Infant (<1 year) Medically complex 1-2 major systems | Infant with a chronic condition/special health care need who requires medical care and support for 1-2 major systems such as tube feeding, total parenteral nutrition, IV antibiotics, wound care, musculoskeletal traction, nasal cannula oxygen, and tracheostomy care (no ventilator) |
