The layout of the experimental settings. The explants separated from 2 groups of Wistar rats—after FG injection (FLOREC) and without FG injection (OREC). System validation was used to determine whether the FG injection itself affects the retinal explant survival. Proper experiment consisted of comparable exposure of FLOREC and OREC explants to gentamicin and CNTF. The outcomes measured were RGC count for FG and β3tubulin and LDH activity in culture medium.
