Improving the Survival in Patients with Decompensated Cirrhosis

Description

Liver cirrhosis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The only effective treatment is liver transplantation which can improve survival and quality of life. Because of the organ shortage and cost, liver transplantation is not available to vast majority of patients with liver cirrhosis worldwide; even in the centers where liver transplantation is available, it is a challenging task to keep this patient alive till the time a donor organ is available. Recent advances in understanding etiology, pathophysiology of liver cirrhosis, and newer treatment modalities and technologies have made it possible to improve survival in patients with decompensated cirrhosis.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing effort of improving survival in patients with decompensated disease. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Improved survival in patients with variceal bleed
  • Management of renal dysfunction and ascites in patients with liver cirrhosis
  • Prevention and management of bacterial infection in cirrhosis
  • Treatment of hepatitis B in decompensated liver cirrhosis
  • Treatment of hepatitis C in decompensated liver cirrhosis
  • Treatment of decompensated alcoholic liver disease
  • Indications and contraindications of liver transplantation in decompensated liver disease
  • Surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma
  • Role of covered TIPS stent graft in management of decompensated liver disease
  • Management of hepatic encephalopathy
  • Management of cardiac respiratory complications of cirrhosis

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijhep/guidelines/.
