Trauma is the third cause of death between ages 1 and 45 and comprises the most productive years between 16- and 45-year olds. It is responsible for two every three deaths in children, and three every four in patients between 15 and 35 years old. The number of years lost due to trauma is more than cardiovascular diseases and neoplasias combined.

There are early reports of traumatic events including many years B.C., and most of the therapeutic modalities for traumatic episodes were developed during wartime, which later were applied to the civilian arena. Because of improvements in prehospital care and emergency medical transportation systems, many critically injured patients now visit extremis prompting trauma surgeons to save their lives. Complex techniques should only be performed by surgeons familiar with the management of complex injuries.

We invite investigators to contribute original research and review articles related to trauma surgery. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

• Emergency department thoracotomy
• Cardiac injuries
• Pulmonary injuries
• Diaphragmatic injuries
• Vascular trauma
• Trauma to the mediastinum
• Pelvic and gynecological injuries
• Transport of injured patients
