The Mechanism of Melanocytes-Specific Cytotoxicity Induced by Phenol Compounds Having a Prooxidant Effect, relating to the Appearance of Leukoderma

Figure 2

Effects of phenol compounds on the survival rates of B16F10 melanoma cells and HaCaT keratinocytes. B16F10 and HaCaT cells were treated with 5.0 mM rhododendrol (RD), raspberry ketone (RK), hydroquinone monomethyl ether (MEHQ), p-hydroxyphenylacetamide (pHPA), 2-(p-hydroxyphenyl)isovaleric acid (2pHP-IA), p-hydroxyphenylethanol (pHPE), 10.0 mM MEHQ, or pHPA for 24 h. Cell survival rates were determined by using neutral red. The black and gray columns indicate the averaged survival rates of B16F10 and HaCaT cells, respectively. The lines on the columns show the standard deviations (). Two asterisks () indicate that the probabilities of significance levels are less than 0.01 ().
