New Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches in Otologic Diseases

Description

Pathologies in the auditory system can range from a simple otalgia to complete deafness and may also involve difficulties with equilibrium. Each type of disorder is the result of damage in a specific part of the auditory system. Common pathologies of the auditory system are hearing loss, tinnitus, and vestibular disturbances.

Cochlear pathologies as well as vestibular disorders have been investigated in detail in the recent years. Recent advances in surgical methods and medical therapy have introduced new technologies to study the genetics of cochlear regenerations including stem cell therapy. Knowledge and understanding of otologic diseases have led to the development of novel therapies, approaches, and/or tools. But we all know that there are long ways to go in otology.

Currently, we believe that there are many ongoing studies about mechanisms, therapeutic agents, surgical methods, and novel instruments. We invite investigators and clinicians to contribute to this special issue of our journal with their studies.

We especially invite papers that aim to demonstrate new improvements on hearing loss as well as its associations with other systems and disorders. Multidisciplinary investigations that are involved in therapeutic modalities in otologic diseases will be appreciated. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Pathophysiology of otologic diseases
  • Explaining pathogenesis of otologic diseases in animal models
  • Relationship of otologic diseases with other systemic disorders
  • Recent developments in the treatment of otologic diseases
  • Selection of correct therapeutic methods in sensorineural and conductive hearing losses
  • Ototoxicity and its prevention

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/tswj/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/tswj/otolaryngology/otolog/ according to the following timetable:
