Bioinformatics/Medical Informatics in Traditional Medicine and Integrative Medicine
Description
Bioinformatics/medical informatics is a new cross-discipline combining information technology, computer science, and biomedicine. It focuses on the resources, devices, and methods in order to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of information in health and biomedicine. Integrative medicine (IM) appears as a new medical branch when new concepts, technology, and equipment are introduced to traditional medicine. IM is currently facing great developing opportunities in the world when information technology becomes a key technical support to combine traditional medicine with conventional disciplines.
The aim of this special issue is to provide an international forum to communicate and share the latest findings and experience of medical informatics in traditional medicine and integrative medicine. High quality papers from IEEE conferences (e.g., BIBM 2014) will be invited to publish their extended version in the special issue. We also invite submissions of original research articles. All submissions need to undergo strict peer review procedure organized by the editors.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Large-scale or cross-species data integration for the reconstruction of networks and pathways in traditional or integrative medicine
- Data integration and knowledge driven approach in biomarker identification and drug discovery in traditional or integrative medicine
- Prediction of protein/RNA structure and biological networks interactions in traditional or integrative medicine
- Collection, analysis, and mining diagnostic data of traditional or integrative medicine
- Collection, analysis, and mining of medical records
- Analysis and data mining of herbal prescriptions and combination of traditional or integrative medicine
- Electronic processing and data organizing of medical literature or medical records
- Application of informatics to acupuncture
- Applied research of informatics to combine traditional medicine with a specific area of conventional medicine, such as bioinformatics, computational biology, epidemiology, hepatology, immunology, nephrology, neuroscience, genomics, orthopedics, and so on
- Other issues of informatics of traditional or integrative medicine
