Psychosis and Gender
Description
The existence of gender differences in schizophrenia has received wide empirical support with respect to clinical and psychosocial factors. The age of onset, premorbid functioning, course of illness and outcome, familial transmission, and neurobiological factors are well described. Gender differences in outcome appear to be common in schizophrenia and in other psychotic disorders. The clinical implications of these differences should be expressed in specific treatments for men and women with psychosis.
We invite investigators to contribute original research and review articles that will help to better our understanding of the influence of gender in psychotic disorders. We are interested in articles describing clinical gender differences in psychotic disorders, treatments related to gender, biological basis of gender differences in psychosis, and psychosocial aspects related to gender differences in psychosis. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Clinical trials developed to assess treatments specifically by gender
- Psychosocial gender differences in schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders
- Clinical gender differences in schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders
- Role of hormones in the treatment of psychosis
- Effect of drug abuse in psychosis by gender
- Gender differences in cerebral imaging
- Cognitive differences by gender
