Modulation of Preactivation of PPAR-β on Memory and Learning Dysfunction and Inflammatory Response in the Hippocampus in Rats Exposed to Global Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion

Figure 2

GW0742 inhibits the GCIRI-induced expression and nuclear translocation of NF-κB in the hippocampus. (a) Representative images of the hippocampal CA1 region after GCIRI. Once NF-κB is activated, it translocates into the nucleus. In the vehicle sham group (Sham), weak cytosolic staining was observed, but no obvious nuclear staining was seen. In the vehicle model animals (Ischemia) and the GW0742-20 model group (GW0742-20), NF-κB staining was significantly increased and was seen in the nucleus in most of cells, see the arrow-pointed cells and cytosol. In the GW0742-60 model group (GW0742-60), cells with nuclear NF-κB staining were deceased compared with the vehicle model group. In the GW0742-180 model group (GW0742-60), staining was mostly confined to the cytosol (see the arrow head-pointed cells) with very faint staining in the nucleus (scale bars = 50 μm). (b) Group data showing the effect of GW0742 on NF-κB expression and translocation. ** compared with vehicle sham group; # , ## compared with vehicle model group; Δ compared with GW0742-20 model group; compared with GW0742 60 model group, ( ).
