Pulmonary Hypertension
Description
Pulmonary hypertension is a complex and still fatal disease that requires a multidisciplinary approach. Recent advances in the understanding of genetics and pathogenesis of this condition lead to increasing interest in pulmonary hypertension worldwide. Over the last decade, a wealth of knowledge based on laboratory, translational, and clinical studies has revealed a new picture of the pathogenesis and progression of the cardiac and pulmonary pathology that has revolutionized treatment targets and approaches.
This special issue focuses on the scientific and clinical advances in pulmonary hypertension and aims to identify current limitations as well as future goals to advance and accelerate approach to the patient with pulmonary vascular disease. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Clinical classification of pulmonary hypertension
- Diagnostic workup and algorithms
- Genomics in pulmonary hypertension
- Immunopathological mechanisms
- Stem cells in pulmonary vascular disease
- Prognostic biomarkers
- Pathologic angiogenesis
- Dysregulation of hypoxia-inducible factors
- Metabolism in mechanisms and as targets
- Nitrogen oxides in pulmonary vascular health and disease
- Maladaptive remodeling and failure of the right ventricle
- Treatment of pulmonary hypertension
- Imaging the pulmonary vascular bed
