Stevia Prevents Acute and Chronic Liver Injury Induced by Carbon Tetrachloride by Blocking Oxidative Stress through Nrf2 Upregulation

<div>Stevia prevents the expression of proinflammatory cytokines in chronic liver damage. Protein levels of TNF-<i>α</i> (a), IL-1<i>β</i> (b), IL-6 (c), and IL-10 (d) in samples of liver tissue were determined by Western blot analysis of the control, CCl<sub>4</sub>-, CCl<sub>4</sub> + stevia-, and stevia-treated rats. <i>β</i>-actin was used as a control. The values are expressed as the fold increase of OD normalized to the control group values (control = 1).
