Impact of Antioxidants on Cardiolipin Oxidation in Liposomes: Why Mitochondrial Cardiolipin Serves as an Apoptotic Signal?

Figure 10

Prevention of MeO-AMVN-induced oxidation in CL liposomes by various antioxidants added externally within POPG liposomes (a) or as ethanol solutions (b). Peroxidation was started by addition of 50 μM MeO-AMVN to 100 μM CL liposomes at 40°C in buffer A. The moments of addition of the antioxidants (30 minutes after the start of the experiment) are marked by arrows. (a) Effects of 1 μM SkQ1H2, 1 μM decPQH2, 1 μM decUQH2, 1 μM MitoQH2, or 1 μM HPMC added in POPG liposomes to CL liposomes within 40 μM POPG (1% volume). (b) Effects of 1 μM SkQ1H2, 1 μM decPQH2, 1 μM decUQH2, 1 μM MitoQH2, or 1 μM HPMC added as ethanol solutions, see also [19].
