Fluid Retention over the Menstrual Cycle: 1-Year Data from the Prospective Ovulation Cohort

Figure 3

Box plots of fluid retention scores comparing data from anovulatory ( ) and ovulatory ( ) cycles averaged over the 11-day intervals of the periovulatory or mid-cycle window and the perimenstrual windows. Boxes show 25th, median, and 75th percentiles, bars show upper adjacent values, and dots represent outliers beyond that. The mean ± SE are shown above each box plot. Repeated measures analysis of variance found a nonsignificant interaction ( ) between ovulatory status and menstrual timing of fluid retention, a significant effect of menstrual timing ( ) and no overall effect of ovulation ( ). Data were collected by 62 initially ovulatory women over one year. Fluid retention/“bloating” was scored from 0–4 using daily Menstrual Cycle Diary data.
