Sphingolipids in Inflammation: From Bench to Bedside

Description

This special issue highlights the areas of research where sphingolipids are involved in inflammation. Inflammatory response is closely associated with generation and/or progression of diseases including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, infectious diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and sphingolipidosis. In recent years, it has become apparent that sphingolipids, such as ceramide, ceramide-1-phosphate, lactosylceramide, and sphingosine-1-phosphate, are involved in inflammatory process. Therefore, uncovering the mechanisms by which sphingolipids regulate inflammatory processes could promote the development of novel therapies against health problem.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the pathobiology of sphingolipids in inflammation and provide valuable mechanistic insight that may translate to therapeutic opportunities. This special issue covers basic research, bioinformatic research, translational research, and (pre)clinical research.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Sphingolipid metabolism and pathobiology in inflammation
  • Sphingolipids-based therapy in inflammatory diseases
  • Sphingolipid receptors
  • Therapeutics targeting of sphingolipid metabolism or signaling
