Distinct Signature of Oxylipid Mediators of Inflammation during Infection and Asymptomatic Colonization by E. coli in the Urinary Bladder

Figure 7

Oxylipids derived from cyclooxygenase activity are found at higher levels during E. coli infection and colonization. LC-MS/MS was used to determine the levels of prostaglandins E2 (a) and D2 (b), 12-hydroxy heptadecatrienoic acid (c), and thromboxane B2 (d) in mouse urinary bladders (female CBA/J, ). Mean + SEM are presented here. and , ANOVA with Bonferroni’s multiple comparison test. PBS, sham-inoculated control; UPEC, uropathogenic E. coli; ABEC, asymptomatic bacteriuric E. coli; CFT, UPEC strain CFT073; ABU, ABEC strain 83972; h PI, hour postinoculation.
