Smart Sensors and Systems for Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things
Description
The rapid development of smart energy calls for a Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things (UPIoT) to connect people and things. The smart sensor has been one of the key components in such an intelligent power system. It is therefore of great interest that more applications can be built besides the design of the sensing component itself.
With the development of Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuits, it is possible to design fully integrated interfaces for versatile signal sensing, followed by the embedded Microcontroller Unit (MCU) that can work with complex algorithms for signal processing with enhanced security and reliability, etc. The key advantage is that the level of integration has been significantly improved and the devices can be of very low power and low cost since the circuits and systems can be implemented with advanced CMOS technology, which is of the highest level of integration. This is crucial for UPIoT, where the sensing devices are frequently used. In many scenarios, portable devices or self-powered devices are preferred. The smart sensor for UPIoT is a new and multidisciplinary topic, which calls for innovative solutions of electric, microelectronics, integrated circuits, system-on-chip, reliability, security and control systems, etc.
This Special Issue is dedicated to the topics to improve the level of integration, security and reliability in UPIoT, etc. Original research and review articles are both welcome.
