Blockade of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 1 Prevents Inflammation and Vascular Leakage in Diabetic Retinopathy

Figure 7

Prevention of diabetes-caused abnormal localization and degeneration of ZO-1 by VEGFR1 blockade. ((a)–(c)) The representative immunofluorescence (IF) images were taken from the nondiabetic mice (a) and the STZ-induced diabetic mice that were treated with rat IgG (b) or MF1 (c). The diabetic duration was 3 months (or 13 weeks) and the total time of rat IgG or MF1 treatment was 39 (3 times/week). The dash lines separate the retinal layers. GCL: ganglion cell layer; IPL: inner plexiform layer; INL: inner nuclear layer; OPL: outer plexiform layer; ONL: outer plexiform layer. Scale bar: 100 μm. (d) Quantification showed the difference of mean size of ZO-1(+) areas in the three groups. The results were expressed as mean ± SD .
