Novel Approaches to Improve Physical Activity and Health Risk Factor

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Physical activity has been shown to contradict the progression of chronic diseases such as obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Although the importance of physical activity in improving both biological and psychological indicators of health is highly recognized few people meet the recommended daily suggestions. Time and money constraints, proximity of sports facilities, and social and other barriers are among the reasons of relatively low-physical activity in youth and adults. Studies to identify 1) reasons for nonparticipation in various ethnic groups and 2) approaches and strategies to improve participation level are warrant.

We invite authors to submit original research and review papers that will present novel approaches to improve participation in physical activities in youth and adults, healthy and special populations. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Factors associated with physical activity and sport participation in various ethnic groups
  • Novel approaches to stimulate higher physical activity participation in youth and adults
  • Compliance data with current approaches to attract people in physical activities
  • Compliance and perception of people leaving with chronic conditions participating in physical activity programs
  • Effect of novel physical activity and training programs on health risk factors (obesity, lipid profiles, insulin responses, etc.)
  • Approaches to stimulate active lifestyles, behavior changing methods to promote adherence to obesity treatment/prevention tasks
  • Individual differences in response to exercise
  • Risks of sedentary behavior
  • The role of structured-versus-unstructured physical activity in weight control and exercise programming
  • Factors affecting the effectiveness of exercise for weight control
