From Molecular Genetics to Diagnosis and Therapy of Gastric Cancer

Description

Targeted therapy of gastric cancer is far from being well-understood and implemented in daily practice. There is an urgent need to understand the gastric cancer cells, from chemical to histological and molecular aspects. The clinical implications of understanding the tumor microenvironment and new data regarding diagnosis and therapy are also important.

The main challenges faced in the field of gastric cancer are the following: tumour heterogeneity, cell plasticity, diagnosis of rare variants, resistance to therapy, and limited therapeutic options. Although immunotherapy seems to be the hope for metastatic patients, the benefits are far from well-understood.

The aims of this Special Issue are the following: to attract chemists, doctors, and researchers who are focused on gastric cancer and its microenvironment or are involved in the diagnosis and therapy of patients with this neoplasm. We intend to attract papers which can be integrated into a common purpose: understanding gastric cancer, from chemical structures to the level of DNA. The preclinical information should then be integrated into the challenges of diagnosis and application in therapeutic regimens. Original papers and review articles are welcomed if they are fit for the proposal aims.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Graphene and other tools used for early detection of gastric cancer-related antibodies in biological fluids and tissues
  • Experimental and clinical studies aimed to detect the particularities of the tumor environment
  • New potential biomarkers involved in tumorigenesis and tumor invasion
  • Old and new concepts of screening of gastric cancer
  • Therapy of gastric cancer – pre- versus post-operative chemotherapy, pro- and contra-arguments
  • Principles and clinical trials results of targeted therapies and immunotherapy
  • Systematic reviews on the latest information regarding gastric cancer, including experimental studies, clinical diagnosis, classic therapy, anti-HER-2 drugs and immunotherapy
  • Detection and treatment of metastases in the stomach
