Mitochondrial-Targeted Antioxidant MitoQ Prevents E. coli Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Accumulation of Triacylglycerol and Lipid Droplets Biogenesis in Epithelial Cells

Figure 1

LPS stimulates lipid droplet biogenesis (a, b) and intracellular accumulation of TAG (c). (a, b) FUBEC incubated with LPS (25 μg/ml) or without it for 21 h were stained with Nile Red for 10 min. The suspension was then transferred to the confocal camera, and microphotographs were obtained with a Leica TCS SP5 MP microscope ( = 488 nm, = 510 – 560 nm, dry objective x40). p<0.05 (n=4). (c) Dose dependency of LPS effect on the intracellular TAG content. Cells were incubated with or without LPS for 21 h, harvested, and subjected to lipid extraction and TLC. n=6 independent experiments. p<0.05; p< 0.01; p<0.001 versus control (the zero point on the x-axis).
