Model Predictive Control
Description
Model Predictive Control (MPC) has been a leading technology in the field of advanced process control for over 30 years. MPC differs from other control techniques in its implementation. At each sampling time, MPC optimizes a performance cost satisfying the physical constraints, to obtain a sequence of control moves. However, only the most recent control move among this sequence is implemented. MPC has been developed from the classical DMC, MPHC, GPC, and so forth, to the synthesis approaches with guaranteed stability. However, there is big gap between the theoretical investigations and industrial applications.
The main focus of this special issue will be on the new research ideas and results for MPC. The special issue will become an international forum for researchers to summarize the most recent developments and ideas in the field, with a special emphasis given to the technical and observational results obtained within the last five years. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Industrial applications of MPC
- Experimental studies of MPC
- Hardware and software developments of MPC
- MPC-oriented real-time optimization (RTO) and steady-state target calculation
- Nonlinear MPC
- Robust MPC
- Output feedback MPC
- Performance assessment of MPC
- Networked implementation of MPC
- Fast and offline implementation of MPC
- Distributed MPC
- MPC for hybrid systems
