Advanced Control in Micro/Nano Systems
Description
Micro-/nanosystems have attracted plenty of attention at both academia and industry within the last two decades. Micro-/nanosystems include miniaturized systems whose physical dimensions lie in micro-/nanoscale and macro-/mesoscale systems which perform tasks at the micro-/nanoscale. Such systems find extensive applications in micro-/nanomanipulation/assembly, health and environmental monitoring, data storage, material science, biomedicine and biotechnology, and so forth. The scale and performance requirement of micro-/nanosystems presents a number of challenges to the control system design.
The main focus of this special issue will be on advanced control technologies in micro-/nanosystems. Due to the precision requirement, the control system design for the micro-/nanoworld is concerned with actuation and sensing, monitoring and modeling, dynamics, characterization, position/force measurement techniques, signal processing, controller design, motion planning, hardware implementation, material fabrication, and so on. The special issue will provide an international forum for researchers to present and summarize the most recent developments and ideas in the micro-/nanosystems control and relevant domains. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Hysteresis/drift modeling and identification of smart actuators/sensors
- Small signal acquisition and processing, noise characterization, and suppression
- Feedback, feedforward, robust, adaptive, and intelligent control
- System identification and control of micro-/nanopositioning devices
- Novel micro-/nanomanipulation/assembly systems and techniques
- AFM-/SPM-based micro-/nanomanipulation/assembly/manufacturing
- Health and environmental monitoring, prognosis, and diagnosis
- MEMS, NEMS, microactuators/sensors, nanomotors, and biomolecular motors
- Micro-/nanorobotic handling and characterization of biological cell/material
- Bacteria, DNA, protein, carbon nanotube, nanowire, and nanocube manipulation/ assembly
