Enhancing Traffic Safety Considering Various Roadway and Traffic Flow Conditions

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Traffic safety is considered a global issue, encompassing multi-transportation modes, advanced infrastructures, new vehicular technologies, connected and autonomous vehicles, and more. To enhance the safety of roadways, researchers and engineers worldwide have taken various actions and adopted policies based on a systematic process, as transportation accidents are complex and there are many influential factors. Therefore, traffic safety must be carefully analysed and local engineers should consider the most effective mix of treatment interventions in line with scientific studies and research.

The main challenges are to reduce accident numbers and make safer roadway environments. This Special Issue will present useful insights and applications for making safer roadways. Thus, local authorities and policy makers could apply the right countermeasures to ambitious targets accordingly.

The aim of this Special Issue is to explore the problems and novel research ideas to find effective methods for making safer roadways. Original research and review articles on transportation collisions, crash risk, and surrogate safety measures considering various roadway and traffic flow conditions are welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Analysis of traffic safety in the context of transportation and mobility areas
  • Advanced cooperative infrastructure-based risk management
  • Transport policy exploration for safety audit
  • Highway safety performance modelling
  • Data-driven analysis for urban transportation safety system
  • Traffic operation strategies for mixed-traffic flow
  • Travel behavior models in the context of Mobility-as-a-Service(MaaS) and multi-transportation modes
  • Traffic safety enhancement for vulnerable road users
  • Transportation big data analytics and modelling
  • Crash risk-based traffic analysis under connected and autonomous vehicle environment
  • Advanced intelligent transportation system and active traffic management
  • Artificial and computational intelligence in traffic safety modelling
  • Real-time crash prediction considering with various crash types and environments
