Cerebrovascular Disorders: Role of Aging

Description

Cerebrovascular disorders comprise a heterogeneous group of symptoms, signs, and mechanisms of injury induced by age-related damages to cerebral tissue. Most importantly, the aging brain does retain some capacity for regeneration and functional recovery after age-associated injuries if properly stimulated. We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the molecular pathology and underlying mechanisms of cerebrovascular disorders in relation to aging. We are particularly interested in articles describing the use of stem cells to help recovery of brain tissue structure and function after injuries to the central nervous system and advances in molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. Finally, new therapeutic options for cerebrovascular disorders should be presented. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Recent developments in cerebral circulation and aging
  • Recent developments in molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying brain aging
  • Recent developments in cerebrovascular disorders research
  • Advances in genetics of stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
  • Development of new animal models for stroke and neurodegenerative diseases
  • Blood-brain barrier alterations in aging and dementia
  • Role of calcium in normal aging and neurodegeneration
  • Role of inflammation in recovery after stroke
  • Role of stem cells in recovery after stroke

Articles published in this special issue will not be subject to the journal's Article Processing Charges.

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jar/guidelines/.
