Direct Alcohol Fuel Cell

Description

Fuel cells are of tremendous interest, from both energy and environmental considerations. Direct alcohol fuel cells (DAFCs) have attracted enormous attention as powerful sources for portable electronic devices and transportation due to the much higher energy density than gaseous fuels such as hydrogen and natural gas. Pt has been extensively investigated as the electrocatalyst for methanol and ethanol electro-oxidation. Some attention has been paid to 1-propanol, 2-propanol, and ethylene glycol (EG) electro-oxidation. For decades, significant progress has been made in the development of other metal or oxide modified Pt and Pd electrocatalysts for alcohol oxidation.

Authors are invited to submit their original research articles and review articles within the focus and scope of DAFCs and alcohol electro-oxidation. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Investigating alcohols for fuels in DAFCs
  • Mechanism of alcohol electro-oxidation
  • Direct alcohol fuel cells
  • Effect of supporting material on catalytic activity for alcohol electro-oxidation
  • Effect of morphology of catalysts on catalytic activity for alcohol electro-oxidation
  • Pt-free electrocatalysts for alcohol oxidation
  • Metal and oxide modified Pt and Pd electrocatalysts for alcohol oxidation
