Surface Electrochemistry: Structured Electrode, Synthesis, and Characterization
Description
Electrochemistry has become a multidisciplinary science and a growing emphasis in the last decades. It has focused on the chemical control of the structure of the electrode/solution interface in order to achieve desired reactivity for electron transfer processes involving target molecules. Thus, modified electrode surfaces have become a wide topic that covers several issues of interfacial electrochemistry, nanotechnology, material science, sensors for biology, environmental sciences, and so forth.
The aim of this special issue is to show, through recent updated significant examples, how the electrochemical techniques allow 1) the unique characterization of specific properties of biomolecular organizations, micro and nanostructured materials such as carbon nanotube-based materials and solid gel, or organic/inorganic hybrid materials that offer varied possibilities of uses (especially dedicated to the development of sensors and analytical devices) and 2) the preparation, designs and applications of specific types of ordered materials that take advantage of electrochemical synthetic methods such as (i) structuring nanosized wires and dots of polymers and semiconductor materials for solar cell applications and photoelectrochemistry and photocatalysis, (ii) functionalizing polymer-based devices, and (iii) designing “intelligent molecular layered nanomaterial electrodes” with predetermined reactivity for expanded practical analytical applications.
We invite scientists to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to develop electrochemical strategies related to the structured surfaces. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting and redox polymer-modified electrodes
- Composite, mineral, clay, and zeolite-modified electrodes
- SAM-modified electrodes
- Carbon nanotube-modified electrodes
- Enzyme, bacteria and whole cell-modified electrodes
- Electrosynthesis of nanowires of metals, conductive polymers and semiconductors
- Photovoltaic applications and electrochromism
- Highly ordered macroporous structured electrodes grown around self-assembled templates
- Local designs
- Direct and indirect electrografting of surfaces
- Applications of scanning electrochemical microscopy for the preparation and structuring of thin layer systems
Articles published in this special issue will not be subject to the journal's Article Processing Charges.
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijelc/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
