Description

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) and terahertz (THz) wireless systems will enable a large number of exciting applications, such as ubiquitous broadband internet access using the fifth-generation (5G) communication systems, short-range wireless transfer of a high definition full movie within a fraction of a second, the large scale development of driverless cars, imaging biotissues with nonionizing radiation, and even “seeing” inside the masterpiece Mona Lisa and other antiques.

In these and other mmWave and THz systems, antennas play key roles since they significantly affect and even directly determine the system performance and cost. Consequently there is an urgent need for mmWave/THz antennas with high performance, including high gain/narrow beam, high efficiency, reconfigurability, low-profile, low side lobe, high/low impedance for integration with active circuits, etc.

This special issue focuses on high-performance mmWave and THz antennas, and includes original research articles as well as review papers.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Slotted waveguide and travelling- and leaky-wave antennas
  • Fabry-Perot antennas
  • Metamaterial and metasurface antennas
  • Graphene-related antenna technology
