Antennas and Arrays for 5G/B5G/6G Communication Systems

Description

The development of wireless communication systems has significantly changed our lifestyles in recent decades. To support potential wireless applications, such as multimedia devices, Internet of Things, and intelligent transportation systems, an advanced mobile system with a gigabit per second data rate is highly desired. To realize this gigabit data rate, while overcoming high loss in high-frequency bands, several promising techniques, including high-gain array antennas and multibeam antennas are likely to be adopted.

Another solution is to employ a smaller cell size so that the bandwidth that can be used will be increased. However, when the cell size becomes smaller, it will result in a rapid multiplication of the number of base stations, prompting a higher concentration of electromagnetic interference (EMI). This phenomenon has led to concerns over the effect of EMI on human health, electronic equipment performance, and communication system security. Therefore, it is crucial to mitigate unwanted signals, as well as any other potential design issues that may also emerge for 5G/B5G/6G communication systems.

This Special Issue focuses on recent technological advancements in antennas and arrays for 5G/B5G/6G communication systems. We welcome both original research and review articles.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • 5G/B5G/6G mm-wave antennas and arrays
  • Low-profile antennas for Internet of Things (IoT) or multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) systems
  • Lenses and reflective antennas
  • Reconfigurable antennas
  • Multi-beam technologies
  • Smart antennas
  • Prototyping and measurement methods
  • Adaptive arrays
  • Beam forming networks and techniques
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)/EMI for 5G/B5G/6G antenna systems
  • Optimization techniques for 5G/B5G/6G antennas and arrays
  • Frequency band and context applications for indoors/outdoors
