In-hospital malnutrition is a considerable health problem and burden on the health system. More than 30% of hospitalized patients are at risk for malnutrition. These patients run a long and complicated course of hospitalization with high risk of complications rates and mortality. Identifying patients at risk for malnutrition and subscribing nutritional treatment (identical to the process of prescribing any other medication) is efficient and cost efficient. Nutrition was an integral part of gastroenterology. Reluctantly, we should acknowledge the fact that this subject has not won its appropriate place in the gastrointestinal practice and literature in recent years.

We invite authors to submit original articles as well as review articles regarding in-hospital malnutrition, prevalence, significance, and treatment. We are specifically interested in studies describing implementation of screening for malnutrition strategies. Large-scale adequate nutrition treatment protocols and efficacy will receive priority for publication. Studies putting emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach are welcome. An important facet of malnutrition is that its manifestation in basic science research studies regarding genetic, biochemical, and other aspects of malnutrition is of great importance and welcome as well. Potential subjects include, but are not limited to:

• Prevalence of malnutrition in various departments
• Prevalence of malnutrition by different diseases
• Prevalence of malnutrition in IBD
• Nutrition treatment in IBD
• Implementation of screening protocols
• Implementation of treatment protocols
• Genetic and biochemical aspects of malnutrition
• Nutritional issues in oncology patients during antineoplastic treatment, BMT patients, TPN, and patients with cancer caxecia
• Nutritional issues in surgery, metabolic consequences of NPO, indication for artificial nutrition before and after surgery, and immune-nutrition for surgical patients
• Nutrition in pediatric special populations
• Nutritional deficiencies in celiac disease at diagnosis and long-term follow-up
• Nutrition in ICU timing, content, and glucose control
