Description

Liver disease is seriously endangering human health in the world. In recent years, the incidence rate of liver disease is increasing year by year, and the age of patients tends to be younger.

Therefore, it is urgent to find safe and effective drugs to treat liver diseases. The drugs used to treat liver diseases in clinic are mainly liver-protecting chemical drugs that can only improve symptoms. Furthermore, these chemical synthetic drugs have some problems, such as high toxicity, high recurrence rate, and high cost. However, herbal medicines and natural products have many advantages, such as multi-channel, multi-target, safety, and so on, which are focused on by medical researchers. Therefore, finding safe and effective drugs to treat liver diseases from herbal medicines and natural products has become a hot topic for medical researchers.

The aim of this Special Issue is to publish high-quality original research and review papers evaluating the potential hepatoprotective activities of herbal medicines and natural products for the treatment of liver disease. Emerging approaches to evaluate the efficacy and safety of herbal medicines and natural products and approaches to decipher their mechanisms of action and targets are also welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Natural bioactives and phytochemicals serve in liver treatment and prevention
  • Isolation and structural elucidation of new hepatoprotective molecules
  • Phytochemical analysis of herbal medicines and natural products used as liver diseases
  • Efficacy and safety of herbal medicines and natural products used as liver diseases
  • Mechanisms and targets of hepatoprotective activities of herbal medicines and natural products
  • Structure-activity relationships of hepatoprotective molecules
  • Biosynthesis and metabolism of hepatoprotective molecules
  • Comparison between herbal medicines and natural products in liver treatment
