Herbal Medicine and Natural Products for Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders
Description
Metabolic syndrome, a group of risk factors that can lead to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other health problems, has emerged as a serious public health concern in the modern world. Therefore, research is urgently required into better treatment and control of blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, and waist circumference. Herbal medicine and natural products, as well as complementary and alternative modalities, present options to individuals with such risk factors, and the evidence of their safety and efficacy for metabolic syndrome and related disorders is growing.
While herbal medicine and natural products are traditionally used for the treatment and control of blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, and waist circumference in various countries around the world, incorporating them into mainstream health care requires further study into their efficacy, safety, and mechanisms of action. Herbal medicine and natural products for metabolic syndrome and related disorders (including cardiovascular disease and diabetes) are still in the early stages of development within the framework of evidence-based medicine, making them occur rarely in international guidelines for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and related disorders. There are several obstacles to overcome, and much effort is required to bring herbal medicine and natural products to their full potential.
Considering current advancements in the research and development of herbal medicine and natural products, this Special Issue aims to offer a platform to discuss laboratory findings, translational, and clinical research of herbal medicine and natural products for metabolic syndrome and related disorders, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. In this Special Issue, both original research articles and review articles are welcomed, as are critical appraisals of the literature for validity, results, and applicability.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Basic research, including in vivo, in vitro, in silico, network pharmacology, bioinformatic, omics, and pre-clinical studies, on herbal medicine and or natural products for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and related disorders, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes
- Translational research on herbal medicine and natural products for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and related disorders, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes, such as proof-of-concept studies and phase I and II clinical trials
- Clinical research and critical appraisal of evidence, including observational studies and phase III and phase IV clinical trials, for herbal medicine and natural products for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and related disorders
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses and critical appraisals of the potential of herbal medicine and natural products for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and related disorders
- Scoping/critical reviews of the potential of herbal medicine and natural products for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and related disorders, as well as the ethics and legal status of herbal medicine and natural products
