Sustainable Utilization of TCM Resources

Description

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history of application and has attracted more and more worldwide attention for its significant effect in prevention and treatment of diseases. Wild medicinal resource is the basis of TCM and nearly accounts for 80% of all the sources of Chinese herbs. With the development of modern TCM industry and gradual degradation of natural environment, natural reserves of medicinal resources face a tremendous amount of pressure. Many medicinal plants are at risk of extinction and some adulterants appeared in the market. In addition, the excessive collection of wild herbal resources may induce serious damages to the environment. Therefore, how to ensure sustainable utilization of medicinal resources should be brought to attention. More and more measures have been taken to guarantee the supply and identification, as well as quality control, of yielding raw material of TCM and new drug development.

We are interested in articles that study how modern technologies are used to promote the sustainable utilization of medicinal resources. We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Systematic review on the production mode of Chinese herbal medicines
  • Modern technologies on the investigation of wild medicinal resources
  • Recent development in identification of medicinal plant or TCM materials using DNA barcoding technologies
  • New technologies on the quality control using traceability management systems
  • The research on exploring new source of traditional Chinese medicine
  • Development of validated analytical methods to run the seasonality studies on native plants includes the determination of different populations, genotype determination of the populations using molecular biology, acclimatization of the selected populations and their cultivation, and evaluation of their chemical profile in comparison with native ones
