Role of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Controlling Dyslipidemia

Description

Dyslipidemia is an established risk factor for cardiovascular diseases including stroke. It includes high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and elevated triglyceride (TG) levels. Dyslipidemia should be the focus of our attention as a means to control the rising prevalence of cardiovascular diseases including stroke. Focusing on lifestyle interventions and low-cost remedies is necessary since the high cost of health care is straining health budgets of all including the resource-rich countries. Evidence-based complementary and alternative (CAM) therapies offer a natural and cost-effective intervention to control dyslipidemia and the resulting cardiovascular diseases.

We are interested in articles that explore various prevention and treatment options for controlling dyslipidemia. Manuscripts based on human as well as animal studies can be submitted for this special issue. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Role of CAM therapies in:
    • Reducing total cholesterol
    • Reducing LDL-cholesterol
    • Reducing VLDL-cholesterol
    • Increasing HDL-cholesterol
    • Reducing serum triglycerides

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ecam/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/ecam/lipid/ according to the following timetable:
