Novelties in the Anatomy of the Central Nervous System and Related Disorders

Description

The anatomy of the central nervous system is now far beyond the classical approach. New techniques for visualization allowed depicting structures not so accessible by classical dissection and contributed to the better understanding of the discrete structural changes that underlie psychiatric and neurological disorders. New methods in microanatomy, furthermore, not only contributed to the better knowledge of neuronal morphology but also opened possibility for the establishment of the relationship between the morphology and the function. Advances in neuroanatomy are leading us to the improved understanding of morphological variations and changes and their impact on the central nervous system functions in normal brains as well as in related diseases and disorders.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the macro- and microanatomy of the central nervous system. We are particularly interested in articles describing the new modalities for morphological and clinical evaluations in the psychiatric and neurological diseases and disorders, as well as in the new insight into the CNS problems by the application of the animal models in studies of schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, major depression, addiction and related diseases, states with the chronic pain, posttraumatic stress disorder, and so forth involving molecular genetics, the neuronal cultures, and the novelties in apoptosis research. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Embryonic development of the central nervous system and possible developmental factors influencing the genesis of the psychiatric disease
  • The system of the interneurons and its role in CNS function
  • The structural changes in chronic pain states
  • Diagnostic procedures and volumetric studies in psychiatric and neurological disorders
  • Novelties in functional magnetic resonance imaging
  • Advances in the cortical mapping
  • Anatomical base of psychosurgery
  • In vivo imaging

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/bmri/anatomy/nova/ according to the following timetable:
