ASA: American Society of Anesthesiologists; BMI: body mass index; DVT: deep vein thrombosis; JSI: joint space infection; PE: pulmonary embolism; UTI: urinary tract infection; VTE: venous thromboembolism. Controlling for BMI, gender, age, and preoperative ASA score, additional postoperative VTE medication, ranging 1 to 4, incrementally increases the risk for longer length of stay, chances for inpatient transfusion, 90-day postoperative event, DVT, PE, emergency department visit, and readmission.
