Experimental Results on Charge Fluctuations in Heavy-Ion Collisions

The scaled variance of the multiplicity distribution for negatively (a), positively (b), and total (c) charged particles as a function of centrality in terms of number of projectile participants in Pb + Pb collisions at 158 AGeV [43]. The experimental results are compared with model simulations in the NA49 acceptance (HSD and UrQMD predictions were taken from [44]). The statistical errors are smaller than the symbols (except for the most peripheral points). The horizontal bars indicate the systematic uncertainties.
