Same as in Figure 2 except for a zoomed region of  Mpc around the most massive object in the 64L05p3 simulation in RGS02b. In this time sequence of images (top: from left to right; bottom: from left to right) we recognize the two main processes that create H in the filaments: “positive feedback regions” in front of H II regions and the reformation of H inside relic H II regions. The bursting mode of the star formation is evident from the continuous formation and recombination of the H II regions in the time sequence of the slices.
